Is it time for a new boiler installation?

If you’re reading this then your boiler may well have run into trouble. Some issues can be repaired, but others signal that it’s time for a new boiler installation.

Boilers cannot deliver the same level of reliability and efficiency forever, despite the fact that we’re dependant on them for our daily usage, we still need to be aware that eventually like most things it will need to be replaced. Like most necessities it will depend on the condition of your boiler. However, a good rule of thumb is to consider a new boiler installation around 10 years after the installation of your existing boiler.

You shouldn’t just wait for something to go wrong with your boiler to have it replaced, as you can avoid that period of having no hot water and heating simply by being a little bit savvy and updating your system before a breakdown.

Another advantage of doing a boiler installation before it breaks down is that it gives you more time to consider and compare which replacement boiler is right for you. Boiler technologies are moving fast, and the efficiency of older boiler models can’t compare with newer modern technologies. So a new boiler installation will also help towards keeping your energy bills at a minimum.

If it is evident that your boiler has completely broken down or has been pronounced dead, then a new boiler installation could be the answer. It’s highly improbable that a boiler that has broken down once isn’t going to run into difficulty again. A new boiler installation could rescue you from calling out heating engineers to carry out repairs on a regular basis.

If you have noticed your energy bills increasing in recent months, and nothing has been changed through your energy supplier, then your boiler could be the cause. Like most things as boilers age they lose their efficiency, which means that they have to work harder using more fuel to meet your demands for central heating and hot water. A new boiler will have the adequate efficiency level that could help you lower your energy bills.

To give you greater efficiency and more flexible control over your heating, you can use a modern SMART control.

Pairing a SMART control such as a Hive or Nest thermostat with your new boiler means that you can manage your heating from the comfort of your own sofa via your phone, Tablet etc to the times and temperatures that suit you. In fact so long as you have an Internet connection you could potentially control your heating from the Pyramids in Egypt.

These types of controls can remember just how you like things to be, and simply mimic these habits as and when requested. This cannot only help save on your energy bills but helps you to have a more convenient lifestyle.

Any type of noise that is not what you’re usually used to hearing such as banging or kettling, is not great news as this could indicate that there is a blockage or some other fault that will need to be addressed. In cases where it’s determined that a blockage is present, a power flush could remove whatever is stopping the water from circulating. A power flush requires chemicals to be flushed through your system, so please leave this job to professionals.

Your boiler should always show a blue coloured flame, this is called your boilers pilot light. If your pilot light is yellow in colour then this shows incomplete combustion and signals that there is carbon monoxide being produced by your boiler. Carbon monoxide is a harmful gas and a silent killer when leaking. In fact you cannot see it, hear it, or smell it. To avoid any fatalities you can install a carbon monoxide alarm and ensure your boiler is regularly serviced every 12months. In any emergency where you feel that this gas may be present, you should open all windows and doors and vacate the property immediately.

Once you have left the property you can then call The Gas Emergency Services on 0800 111 999 this is a free telephone number open 24hrs.

To learn more about Carbon Monoxide Poisoning you can visit the Gas Safe website

Note: newer boilers do not have visible pilot light, however they still have an internal burner present. In this case please still ensure your boiler is serviced every year and have a carbon monoxide alarm present.

Although carbon monoxide is odourless, Natural unburnt gas does have an odour, this has deliberately been put there so that you can smell and detect a gas leak. If this happens you should still treat it the same as carbon monoxide leak and open the windows and doors and vacate the property calling the Gas Emergency Services on (0800 111 999). In many cases customers need replacement parts to repair their boiler systems. Older systems can make sourcing replacement parts very difficult, as there simply could be far and few available if any at all.

If your engineer has had no luck in sourcing compatible parts for you then it may just be the right time to look into a more modern boiler system.

With newer boiler systems there is a good chance that your engineer will have the adequate parts in their van and at the ready, however with newer boilers outsourcing the required parts needn’t be a problem as more modern parts are easily available and accessible.

Do you feel as though your system is not up to scratch and behaving differently than it used to?

If your boiler is not performing as it used to in the past, and you’re struggling to reach a comfortable temperature for your home, then a new boiler can relieve you of these problems.

Your thermostat can only do so much, so if it’s taking an annoyingly long time to turn on and heat up or it limits your hot water supply, then it really is time for a new boiler.

As mentioned above there are several reasons why you may want or need a new boiler.

Your Installation Day

Hip hip hooray!!!… Congratulations are in order, as the large majority of boiler installations are completed within the same day!

Your installation time would be within one of our morning slots generally starting from 8-9am

First things first we will protect every and anything that needs protecting within the surrounding area of the installation. We then will test and turn off your services (water, gas and heating system electrics). Then we will drain down your heating system and remove your old boiler and flu. After we have done this we will then start installing your new boiler.

Once installation is completed we will clean the system using chemicals. Shortly after we will test and commission your new boiler. Now that your new system is up and running as it should be, we will then clean up all the surrounding areas. We aim to leave your place looking even more pristine than how we found it, in fact we’re sure to leave it looking like we weren’t there at all.

Rest assured we aren’t finished yet!!! Before your installer makes their way home they will explain to you exactly how to use your new system controls in the most easiest and efficient way possible.
